New Residents to Ohio must obtain a new driver's license, an Ohio title for your Motor vehicle, and new license plates as soon as possible. Once you are an Ohio resident, the courts of Ohio consider 30 days the maximum grace period for changing your registration. If you have a valid out-of-state license that has not expired, you can get an Ohio driver license upon satisfactory completion of a vision test, and a written and sign test.

To obtain the address of the nearest Deputy Registrar License Agency to your home, please call 1-800-589-TAGS.

For title registration, you must first have your vehicle inspected at a license agency or at most new car dealerships. There is a $3.00 fee for this service.

Title registration is processed through the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts, Auto Title Department, at 1261 Superior Ave, Cleveland Ohio. Finally, take your title to the license bureau where the deputy registrar will collect your fees, register your vehicle and issue your plates.

Please note, auto insurance is required of all drivers in the state of Ohio, and all children under the age of 12 must ride in the back seat of vehicles. All children 40 pounds and under must use a child safety restraint at all times.
